House of Nerds is a small visual effects company built around supporting the creative development and post requirements for both IMAX and feature film productions. We’re a young enthusiastic team inspired and driven to innovate. We’re looking for team members who are self-motivated and can apply themselves regardless of creative or technical challenges.

We are looking for an industrial designer or mechanical engineering student to solve unique production challenges that House of Nerds faces while shooting films. The job will involve creative problem solving, some design engineering, rapid prototyping, 3D modelling, sourcing components from the Oceania region, and preparation of drawings for communication with manufacturing partners. Self-motivated organised and hands-on skills will be key for this role, as it involves owning the entire product development process. House of Nerds being a production company, this role would be perfect for someone with an interest in photography or film.

This role would be suitable for students or recent graduates of Industrial Design and/or Mechanical Engineering.

Strong 3D modelling skills using programs such as Fusion 360 or Solidworks.

Good understanding of metal CNC machining processes.

Comfortable with hand-tools.

Experience with 3D printers and other rapid prototyping methods.

Good understanding of mechanical principles and material qualities.
